Welcome to Multimedia Environments, the program that gives your MPC an attitude!
This setup program will walk you through the installation of Multimedia Environments and, with just a few clicks, your PC look and sound like new!
The dialog boxes should be self-explanatory, but if you have any questions, click the Help button to receive a more detailed explanation of the functions contained in that dialog box.
This install program will place a program called ENVRION.EXE in your Windows directory and place a line in your autoexec.bat to call the program when you start your PC. Environ.exe will determine, based on the selections you will make in this program, what Environment to display when you enter Windows. Environ.exe must be run before starting Windows for Environments to function properly.
Once the program is installed, you may add and remove Environments, modify Environments settings, and install or uninstall Life's Little Instruction Book and The 5th Wave cartoons. All this can be done by starting the Environments applet which will be installed in Program Manager/Main/Control Panel. And if you ever need to remove Multimedia Environments, just use the applet's uninstall option.

In testing your system, the installation program has determined that:
1. your system does not have a Windows compatible sound card installed in your computer.
and/or
2. you do not have the proper sound drivers installed to allow Windows to recognize your sound card.
Multimedia Environments is an MPC product. MPC specifications require that a sound card be installed in the computer and the sound card must be capable of playing 8-bit sound files.
Once the sound card is installed in your computer, files called "drivers" must be installed so Windows can send information to the sound card. If these drivers are not installed or are installed incorrectly, no sound can be played. Windows drivers should accompany the sound card when purchased. If not, they should be available from the sound card vendor at no charge.
Please make sure you have the sound card properly installed and configured and that the proper drivers are loaded for Windows, then run this Setup program again.

In testing your system, the installation program has determined that:
Your video display driver is not capable of displaying at least 256 colors simultaneously.
All Multimedia Environments graphics contain 256 colors. The standard graphic driver that comes with Windows 3.0 or 3.1 is a 16-color driver. 256-color graphics cannot properly be displayed using 16 colors; therefore, you must change to a 256-color driver. Multimedia Environments needs a video driver with a resolution of at least 640X480 and 256 colors.
These drivers should be supplied by the vendor to anyone who has purchased a Super VGA (SVGA) video display card. They may either be installed in a directory on your hard drive, or they may be on a floppy diskette that came with your video card. Contact your video card vendor or the location where you purchased your computer for more information, especially questions concerning installation and setup of the video drivers under Windows.
Please make sure you have the proper video drivers are installed for Windows, then run this Setup program again.

Select the "Environments To Install" box:
Clicking on "Custom":
All Environments, except Holidays, will appear in the "Available Environments" box.
Clicking on "Seasons Only":
Only Seasonal Environments will appear in the "Available Environments" box.
Clicking on "Seasons with Holidays":
Only Seasonal and Holiday Environments will appear in the "Available Environments" box.
When a holiday Environment is selected, it will over-ride the current custom or seasonal Environment when the holiday date occurs. After the holiday period is over, Environments will return to the custom or seasonal environments.
Available Environments:
Choose the Environments to install on you system. Double-click the desired Environment with the mouse or select the desired Environment and click the "Add" button.
"Add" Button:
After you have selected an Environments to install, click on the "Add" button to place it in the "Selected Environments" box.
"Remove" Button:
You may remove Environments from the "Selected Environments" box in the same way you selected Environments in the "Available Environments" box. Clicking the "Remove" button will remove the Environment from the "Selected Environments" box.
"Selected Environments" Box:
These are the Environments which will be installed on your system when you finish the Setup program.
Space Available:
Available space in kilobytes on your "C" (or target) drive for installation of Multimedia Environments.
Space Required:
Space required on your "C" (or target) drive for successful installation of Multimedia Environments.

Specify whether your Environments are displayed in a pre-determined order or in random sequence.
Random Order:
Setup will determine an order to display the chosen Environments.
Sequential Order:
You choose the display order of the selected Environments.

If you selected "Sequential Order", here is where you tell us what order you want.
Selected Environments:
This box lists the Environments you have selected for installation.
Add/Remove Buttons:
Use these buttons to move the Environments between the Selected Environments box and Environments Order box in the order you wish them displayed.

Select how often the Environment will change.
Change Manually:
Environments will display the first environment on the list, whether it be a random or a sequential list. To change the Environment, select the CHANGE ENV button on the initial menu screen of the Control Panel application that will be installed by this setup program.
Daily:
The Environments will change daily when you start your PC and enter Windows. If you do not exit Windows and restart your PC for several days, a new Environment will be displayed the next time you restart your PC and enter Windows.
If you do not wish to restart your computer, you can exit Windows and from the Windows directory in DOS, type ENVIRON and press enter. This will have the same effect as restarting your computer. When you start Windows, your Environment will change.
Weekly:
A new Environment will be loaded the first time you restart you PC and enter Windows each calendar week.
If you do not wish to restart your computer, you can exit Windows and from the Windows directory in DOS, type ENVIRON and press enter. This will have the same effect as restarting your computer. When you start Windows, your Environment will change.
Monthly:
A new Environment will be loaded the first time you restart your PC and enter Windows each calendar month.
If you do not wish to restart your computer, you can exit Windows and from the Windows directory in DOS, type ENVIRON and press enter. This will have the same effect as restarting your computer. When you start Windows, your Environment will change.

You have chosen to install one or more Holiday Environments. Holiday Environments will be loaded in place of your current Environment. Please select when each Holiday Environment will start and end. Click on the appropriate buttons and select "Continue".

Please choose whether to install The 5th Wave Cartoons and/or Life's Little Instruction Book.
The 5th Wave Cartoons:
Once The 5th Wave cartoons are installed, a minimized icon will appear on screen when you enter Windows. By double-clicking on The 5th Wave Cartoons icon, you will see a new cartoon, chosen at random.
Clicking on the minus sign in the top left corner of the applet will let you accesses the browse feature. This will allow you to flip back and forth through the cartoons.
Life's Little Instruction Book:
Once Life's Little Instruction Book has been installed, a minimized icon will appear on screen when you enter Windows. Each double-click on the Life's Little Instruction Book icon will result in the display of a single, random Life's Instruction.
Clicking on the minus sign in the top left corner of the applet will let you access the browse feature. This will allow you to flip back and forth through the Instructions.

Installing The 5th Wave Cartoons requires hard disk space in addition to the space needed for Environments. This screen informs you of the space requirements, and also offers the opportunity to discontinue installation of The 5th Wave Cartoons.
Choose "Continue" if you want The 5th Wave cartoons installed.
Choose "Re-Select" if you do not want to install The 5th Wave Cartoons.

Installing Life's Little Instruction Book requires hard disk space in addition to the space needed for Environments. This screen informs you of the additional space requirements, and also offers the opportunity to discontinue installation of Life's Little Instruction Book.
Choose "Continue" if you want Life's Little Instruction Book installed.
Choose "Re-Select" if you do not want to install Life's Little Instruction Book.

This screen informs you of the additional space requirements, and also offers the opportunity to discontinue installation of Life's Little Instruction Book and The 5th Wave cartoons.
Choose "Continue" if you want Life's Little Instruction Book and The 5th Wave installed.
Choose "Re-Select" if you do not want to install Life's Little Instruction Book and The 5th Wave.

Please specify the directory in which Multimedia Environments should be installed. If the named directory is satisfactory, choose "Continue".
If you would like Multimedia Environments installed in a directory other than the named directory, type in the drive and directory you wish to use, then select "Continue".

The selection you have made in this setup program require more space on your system than is currently available. We suggest one of the following:
1. Select "Cancel" to exit the install program and make more room available on your hard drive, then run the install program again.
2. Select "Cancel" to exit the install program and select a different drive that has more space available.
3. Select "Continue" and reduce the number of Environments you chose to install.
4. Select "Continue", proceed through the install process and deselect The 5th Wave and/or Life's Little Instruction Book.
